Khalkh River – Historic Waters of Eastern Mongolia

The Khalkh River, flowing through Dornod Province, is a serene and historically significant river on Mongolia’s eastern frontier. It is most famous as the site of the 1939 Battle of Khalkhin Gol between Soviet-Mongolian and Japanese forces. Today, the river is a peaceful destination surrounded by wide steppe landscapes and war memorials.
