Tövkhön Monastery is one of Mongolia’s most sacred and historically significant religious sites. Perched atop the Shireet Ulaan mountain in Övörkhangai province, it was founded in 1648 by Zanabazar, the first Bogd Gegeen of Mongolia.

  • Best visited May–September due to road conditions
  • 4×4 vehicles recommended for final mountain path
  • Combine with visits to Orkhon Waterfall and Karakorum
  • Modest dress is appreciated when entering religious sites
